Chronology of cameras Chinon
In 1974, Chinon presented a prototype of this model at Photokina, under the name Mini 77. Here is the presentation provided by Phot'Argus:
"It was a very attractive prototype, metallic, and somewhat heavy. The opening mechanism is by extension, and the winding is by back-and-forth movement. On the top, at the front, there is a sliding lever for focusing, with a scale featuring symbols (mountain/group/bust/portrait) and graduations (infinity to 1.2m). At the rear, there is a sliding lever for adjusting the diaphragm, with a scale showing symbols (cloud/sun) and graduations (f/2.7 to f/22). On the right side, there is a threaded trigger for a cable release. It was necessary to keep the trigger depressed during long exposures.
This camera is automatic with pre-selection of the diaphragm. The viewfinder is collimated with a parallax mark. Above the viewed image, there is a focus scale with symbols (mountain/group/portrait) and a needle. Three broad light signals can appear in the viewfinder, on the right side against the black reserve: at the top, a red signal indicates overexposure and emits a brief flash when the battery test button is pressed (a small recessed button in the rear-right corner of the base). In the center, a green signal indicates exposure shorter than 1/30, blinking when using the built-in close-up lens—very clever! (this is engaged by moving the lever located near the front edge of the base to the left). At the bottom, a red signal indicates exposure longer than 1/30, remaining illuminated during the shutter opening.
